Ruatoria, visit around
October 22, 2012

Today it’s Monday but no one is going to work or school. Maila offered that we visit around Tikitiki (Wiki). I’ve cycled through that town on the way here but I didn’t take the time to have a look.

We start the afternoon by making crocodiles with beads :-). I haven’t made these for something like 15 years haha :-) After a bit of research I could finally teach Caila how to make it. Next time she will be able to do it on her own. She is really happy with this one :-).

Maila wanted to show me the longest Waka in the world. Unfortunately we can’t approach it because that canoe stands onto private lands…

A woman told us that we could climb the fence but the owner might not like the idea. That’s the closest picture I can do, better than nothing!

The last visit concerns one of the most beautiful church built for Maoris in the region. Usually I don’t like taking pictures of religious building but the decoration is quite something. The frame of this entrance is all carved by hand. The inside is really beautiful as well but I did not take any picture at all. You can see the inside here.

Caila has absolutely no patience with strawberries. As soon as they just start to become red, she picks them up and eat them, ahah.
