Today is my fist day off! Peter, a guy from Czech Republic I met in the campsite invited me to visit Puketi forest by bike. Why not :-) Here we go!

At the beginning, the road was quite normal but rapidly we rode in the sand and then the mud and then a pause was necessary. I did not want to carry a bag pack so I kept my trailer but I’m carrying a lot for not much I must say.

The Puketi reserve’s sign indicates that we are not lost! This sand road in the forest is quite good so far.

Oh oooh, it’s getting really muddy and slippery all at once. There must be people working inside the reserve to have such marks on the ground.

My bike was clean this morning but now…
A while later…

We almost missed this part of our ride! That would have been such a pity. Those trees are huge! Well, you can not really see that on this picture but have a look at the next one ;-)

HUGE I said :-) This “kauri” tree is something like 800 years old and some other trees like this one can live until 4000 years! The trunk can reach 4 to 5 meters in diameter. Enormous!
On the way back…

Along the way back to Kerikeri We’ve seen some cows passing slowly across the road.

Ok, we have the number 369. Hummm! strange number (3, 3+3, 3+3+3). I think it a sign but witch one? And the number on that yellow stick in the foreground shows “9 6 7 8” Those digits are almost in order… That’s really strange too… ;-) This picture has something mystic to it I think. Maybe this cow is special haha :-)
